You people that are saying that it's okay to swear just because there's a filter...well you just don't get it. The filter is well...a filter! It's a safeguard. It does not mean that it's okay to swear in a public setting where children can see it....and it doesnt mean you can swear at an official of the game. That's just plain stupid.

That's like saying that it's okay to grope the strippers because there are bouncers there. Why do you think the bouncers/filters are there in the first place? To keep the troublemakers from causing trouble.

And no, I don't get offended by swearing personally.... I just know there's a time and place for it. Your brother was too stupid to learn this.

What can you communicate with swearing that you cannot communicate in every day PG language?

I think 24 hours is a weak penalty, especially given there was a warning.

If a cop pulls you over for speeding 5 kilometers over the limit you dont spit in his face call him homosexual and expect there will be no consequences.

Xenophobia has no place in the world, let alone in a fun game. I am French, and would take offence to something like this.

There are certain elements of American society and especially politics that I disagree with, but I sure as hell don't go around screaming "I hate Yanks!"

Maybe you shouldnt turn the filter off if you dont like inappropiate language, its there for a reason but 24 hours is nothing ive had 160 hours (i think) and thats just for the random crap i speak and no gw then was hard. First suspension is like 24 hours, then 3 days then a week then like 2 weeks or something

GW is very tolerant compared to World of WarCraft, where he might have gotten two weeks suspension.

No excuse for swearing. Can't control your temper, you don't need to play.

Indeed. If you want to swear, do it at someone that can hit you in the face, rather than hide behind a keyboard.

More importantly even if you have the chat filter on:

a) You can tell when you're being insulted and even what they're saying "---- you" is quite obvious. As is "mother ------" Abuse doesn't have to be swearing either.

b) Some people change their spellings so the words will come up anyway.

Default They have the Power...We do not...

Say...I am glad that A-Net is cleaning up the little brat's behavior in the game. If it was up to me it wouldn't be for a measly 24 hours. That is a slap on the wrist. I would make it hurt for two weeks at a minimum.

Time to learn some manners. People get tired of endless spamming in the local chat and then when asked to stop then we get some little punk that can't even swear correctly in the first place running their mouth back at us.

I have a question - and don't everyone pile on for the attack cuz I just woke up

If indeed someone ask a person, giving them a direct order, who they are, what's it gonna hurt to say "I'm an Admin at Arena Net"? Or, since anyone can say that, make those players who work for Anet have some kinda aura? Only in times of trouble or great strife would I think it's ok to dictate orders and not show ID every single time you tell someone "Move out of the way, there's a man with a machine gun!". I was just last week dealing with people on the trade channel, repeating themselves every .2 of a second, and I turned the trade channel off. It was then that I realized how much spam goes on in the general chat area also. I said "Can't you all keep the trade stuff on the trade channel?" I was ignored, but what if someone had asked who I was... and I did work for Anet, I just chose not to tell them and bark another order? I can't take a second to say who I am or announce my presence when I first arrive on the scene?

I mean Anet can do whatever they want to, it's their toy and they can take it home if they wish. But what stops everyone from running around trying to play boss? Are the admins clearly marked and this person just didn't know? I've never run into one so I don't know... I also don't act up in game unless I'm questing with my sis

The filter only works for bad words. It doesn't work for people saying rude things about your mother or other such things. Why can't people just behave?

ummmm........they do already.

ever notice that they speak in a different color (green) in the chat when the players cant?

and the jerk didnt simply ask who it was they..........

Quote:
Inapropriate language? the deal:
Simply put - he rudely asked who it was
if he thinks it was a rude question 99% of the players might think it was over the top

Quote:
Instead of an answer he was told to mind his language and when he pointedly said he'll talk how he wants he was booted and suspended for 24 hours for inapropriate language
considering what happened it was over the top by a big margin

since it is available for review if the banned jerk complains it is not likely an abuse of power since the logs will prove it one way or the other.

maybe on review they would ban him for a week

Inapropriate language? the deal:
He recieve green writing (like from in a guild) in the chat window telling him not to spam the trade window. Simply put - he rudely asked who it was (thinking it was an unknown guild member or a guest that couldn't be seen). Instead of an answer he was told to mind his language and when he pointedly said he'll talk how he wants he was booted and suspended for 24 hours for inapropriate language - not for spaming the trade (which he says he wasn't doing, and I tend to believe him as I know how he sells his stuff).

Now I am not one to appreciate a huge amount of swearing but with the option within GW to turn swearing on an off this is not a problem. How can Anet think they have the right to randomly boot and suspend people for swearing at an administrator who won't anounce themselves? This is what we call tin-god syndrome. Booting people, for no real reason, to feel big and powerful. It is, simply, disgusting.

This is a bit beyond ridiculous. Has this happend to anyone else? I looked through the formums and saw a few suspended acounts but from things like inapropriate names etc.

His 5 paragraph email to Anet will probably get binned. I am curious as to whether anyone else has been bullied by tin-god admins
Well it's nice to see that some obnoxious people get disciplined. You get no sympathy from this account holder. First trying to read the trade channel when some jerk is spamming away is irritating. Second there is far too much disrespect in this game and rude behaviour. It is nice to know that some of these people are occasionally disciplined for that. Lesson? Don't disrespect a game moderator just as you wouldn't disrepect the GWGuru forum mods, else you get that old ban stick on the noggin. In my opinion he was fortunate not to have a 72 hour or 7 day ban. Lucky him.

To the just turn the filter on crowd~~
Moderate swearing in the game is obviously designed and tolerated or the chat filter would do just that filter all swearing. But with that said, so many people abuse that. The filter is there to assist those people who don't want to see any of that, or for parents who have younger children and want to try and filter out vulgar chat. The EULA, Gaile and the position of ANet/NCSoft in general is that it is not okay to be vulgar or use excessive swearing. I hate the argument that if you don't like the spam or the off-color conversation that you should just turn on the filter or rezone. That isn't the view of the game company or the community in general. It is a very vocal minority of players who make it seem that most people talk this way. They don't. /rant off.

My biggest gripe about the chat filter is that is in no way localised. For example, If i Type "damn," which I believe is a terrible word in the States, it is filtered. I have heard the Royal Family use this word, and it is considered much nicer than "bloody" in the UK, which is not filtered.

You then have words like "Wanker" which are not filtered, and which I would consider truly awful language for children to see.

I apologise for swearing, but was just trying to explain that maybe a regional filter would be better; along with a a "British English" translation of the game for those in Europe, so that we do not have to see "Favor," "Armor" and "Customized" everywhere, and wonder why our children cannot spell. ^^

They speak with green text. The problem is Guild chat and some other infos are also in green. Anet should change admin and GM text to something unique such as red or purple. And they should use GM names (NCSoft Moderator or Arena Net Admin) when messaging player for bad behaviour.

Dude, don't even try. When you post something in a forum and it defends one side of an issue and isn't specifically directed at one person and you state something so general, you are directing that statement at everyone on your opposing view.

So don't give me this crap about not "solely directing" it at me...I don't care if you did or didnt....your statement about people posting here to get free stuff from ANET was just plain idiotic.

It has nothing to do with that, I'd bet he said something to the effect like "Who the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO you think you are? I speak the way I want to speak"

And tata.. banation
